In what I do for a living there is always a team effort. I was reminded of this on this last film, Paramount Pictures” Up in the Air” starring George Clooney.
We recorded the Hollywood Symphony Orchestra at the Sony Scoring Stage for this one. In case you have not had the chance to be there, the control room is about half the size of a baseball field….As each of us play an integral part.

Here is the line up. There is Jason Reitman who directed , then there is Rolfe who not only wrote the score but conducted as well. Tony B who orchestrated and acted as booth person, myself at the console. Nick and Allister South handling the music editing. Dan Savant contracting, Larry Mah running Pro Tools for me. A host of Sony people, set up guys, assistants, runners and so on. Each playing an important role.

It was revealed to me on this project how important it is to survive in this business, you have to be a team player. As much as we all have ideas and suggestions, we all have a chain of command. Being great at what we do is a given, or none of us would be there. But then there is the elusive talent of the ability to get along with other people in the session. For instance: Rolfe has to approve his music with Jason, I have to approve my mixes with Rolfe and so on. This is not an individual sport. We often have to remove our ego and do what is best for the film. Making film music is a collaborative experience. We always have to remember that.
